This course introduces the student to all the basics of medical insurance billing and practice management. We cover all the different types of health insurance, who is eligible to receive it, how it is obtained and how the medical claims process works. Managed care, as well as Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurances, are explained. We show how physician credentialing, whether the provider participates or not with an insurance carrier, affects the billing process. Also addressed are the CAQH credentialing system, NPI numbers and taxonomy codes. Included is a full unit on career opportunities in the field of medical billing.
